Museum Mile in New York City is absolutely a museum lovers dream. You’ve got the Metropolitan, El Museo del Barrio, Museum for African Art, and many more — including the iconic Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and it’s an accessible experience that won’t take days to explore.

Accessible, in this case, is fairly literal. The six storied museum allows you to ascend in circular ramps. If you want to head straight to the top, there’s also elevators. However, given that there’s only one elevator, it can take a while to arrive. If you haven’t already purchased tickets, you can get them at the desk on the first floor. Here, take a moment to look up at the ceiling and the floors spiraling above you to get a fantastic look of the museum!

Once you have your tickets, you’ll begin your slow ascent, working your way in circles upwards. There are a few temporary exhibitions that will be on display — both in between floors and in specific exhibition rooms. You’ll also have the more permanent collections, including Mondrians and Van Goghs.

The space in between floors isn’t wall-to-wall art, so if you’re expecting an immense amount to look at, you might be disappointed. However, between the care given to the temporary exhibitions and the great permanent displays, it’s still an incredible visit on top of the unique architecture.

In terms of price, it’s a little on the higher side for what you get out of it. Because a lot of the draw of the Guggenheim is the architecture, you might feel like the ticket is a bit much, but it’s still a truly unique experience to wander the museum and see amazing works of art, so it’s far from a ripoff.
