Oga’s Cantina at Walt Disney World Review

The Solo Scale:

Are you introverted like me? Oga’s might be a challenge for you, because there’s a high likelihood that you’ll be seated with strangers, which can lead to the awkwardness of sitting in silence or trying to carry the conversation. You can always ask to stand at the bar, if your feet aren’t protesting yet, which might be the best option. This becomes an equation at this point. Do you love Star Wars enough to deal with a little bit of social awkwardness? If the answer is yes, then read on!

If you’re dialled into the Galaxy’s Edge history, then you know that the original plans for the land’s dining involved a much more intricate dinner option. Thanks to budgetary restraints, things changed quickly. That meant that instead of a dinner experience, we got Oga’s Cantina. Unfortunately, it’s a much more pared-down experience with limited seating bar and only a few light bites.

For the first few years, Oga’s was extremely popular. It was one of the hottest tickets in both Disney World and Disneyland. Nowadays, there’s lots of availability, from a combination of interest cooling off and the maintenance of the time limit. That said, given that you’re lucky to get a seat, the time limit (and drink limit of 2 per customer) might not be a bad thing.

One thing is true about Oga’s — you’re going to be socializing. If you get a seat, there are going to be strangers at the table with you. The only exception to this is if your party has the exact amount of seats at a table. For extroverts or those wanting to make a connection, this is a great thing! If you’re exhausted and want to decompress with your own party, that might be a downfall.

When it comes to the drinks, they follow the Galaxy’s Edge theming, so you’ll get some unique aspects to the drinks. My drink had the rim lined with black peppercorns that were interesting to look at, but didn’t do much to elevate the taste of the drink or the experience.

In my opinion, the drinks here were nothing to write home about. The theming was more of a draw. I found the drinks slightly watered down and pricy. The price may be normalized for Disney, but I wanted better quality. The theming, however, is great. You really do feel like you’re in a Star Wars cantina, and there’s a droid spinning tunes. If Disney is really smart, DJ Rex should start playing the Niamos remix. I know I’d drop by solely for that again, even if I’m not that fond of the drinks.

If you still want to go, here’s a few tips:

  1. You’ll likely need to make advance reservations. Even years on, this is a very popular spot
  2. Because of its popularity, don’t expect to linger for very long. You’ve only got forty-five minutes to enjoy your two drinks
  3. You might end up standing. If that’s a risk you don’t want to take, get yourself some reservations to see the inside and then head to Docking Bay 7 or Ronto’s Roasters for food and a guaranteed seat
  4. If you do get a seat, it’s going to be at a communal table unless you’re a large party. That means awkward small talk or new best friends. Here’s hoping for the latter
