The Solo Scale:
Being an island, Ireland has one of the same features as many other islands. This includes incredible coasts with the landscape being carved in fascinating ways. Norway has the fjords, England’s got the Cliffs of Dover, and that’s just the start. In Ireland, there’s a few options to choose from, but the most well-known are the Cliffs of Moher.
On the western coastline of the country in the countryside is the welcoming sign of the Cliffs of Moher. You’ll also find the visitors centre hewn into the hills like a hobbit house. Inside, you can get information, have your bio breaks, and buy souvenirs.
Which way do you take?
When you’re ready to head out to the paths, you can strike one of two ways. Go left to get a good view of the tower and one of the shorter sections. Or, head right and get the view that most people post about — the long interrupted line of craggy cliffs. If you head either way, be cautious and make sure not to get too close to the edge. There aren’t many barriers that will prevent you from falling and there is a substantial amount of erosion that makes the rocks unsteady and liable to give way at any given time. Whichever you’ll choose, prepare yourself for the winds that can whip up off the ocean!

At the Cliffs, you could spend a few minutes or a few hours (if you’re a fan of hiking). If you’re doing this with a bus tour, you might have limited time. I recommend that you head towards the tower as the more ‘iconic’ view can be taken from that side. If you have plenty of time and aren’t afraid of the hike (or heights), you can spend more time wandering along the cliff’s edge and admiring the Moher cliffs.
You can find more information on their website, along with the current admission rates (an affordable price for such an amazing view!) It’s easily accessible by rental car, and there are multiple tour companies who will bring you out, so if this is on your bucket list, it should be fairly easy to arrange.
