Trader Sam’s in Disneyland

The Solo Scale:

Sometimes, you run into restaurants, attractions, or destinations that may seem a little overrated. Everyone is talking about them, hyping it up, and it might leave you wondering, “Is it really that good?”. I had similar reservations about Trader Sam’s. I’d heard amazing things, but nothing could prepare me for going to the one in Disneyland. The cool A/C and the dark room after a hot day was a perk alone, but then came the atmosphere, the drinks, and the show-stopping bartenders.

The drinks were plenty strong, and the darkness of being inside Trader Sam’s was a huge perk when it was a blistering hot day in California.

TRIP TIP: If you want a guaranteed seat, the trade off is time at the theme park. Head over to Trader Sam’s in the early afternoon when people are still enjoying the rides, and you’ll have some decent luck. This may not always work, but it’s a tradeoff that might pay off.

Our seats were by the heavy door, which brightened up the dark bar every time it opened. Inside, there are no windows, blocking out the sun. The lack of windows also makes the experience a secluded one that heightens the theme. At Trade Sam’s, you’ll get a break from the hustle and bustle of the parks and Downtown Disney.

You can grab food here as well, so if you’re looking for a lunch spot, then you’ve got options, but what most people go for is the drinks. You should like a tropical drink, but honestly, it’s hard to go wrong. Each of the drinks comes in a fun appearance with themed swizzle sticks and fun names, like the Sea Monster’s Embrace, Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum, Shipwreck on the Rocks, and so much more.

Plus, if you order some very specific drinks, then you’re also in for a show.

There’s nothing quite like the show that comes with the Uh-Oa (other than the other incredible shows that Trader Sam’s puts on!)

Can you go to Trader Sam’s if you don’t like to drink? Absolutely. There’s also food to be had, alongside the non-alcoholic menu items, and the show & experience doesn’t change. You’ll still get to be in the thick of it, which means that anyone can enjoy it.

Still, it’s the experience that you’re going to remember. If you’re going on either coast, be prepared to wait. Unless it’s just opened or it’s a slow day, this is a super popular destination, so be prepared to hang around the hotel until your name is called.

Is it worth the wait? In my opinion, absolutely, at least once — and I can’t wait to get back and experience it again.
