Flock to the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel!

The Solo Scale:

Sometimes, in Vegas, you get exactly what you expect. That means if you’re expecting to go to the Flamingo hotel to see the birds, you’re in luck. You’re going to find a whole habitat of the iconic pink birds waiting to be viewed.

However, you should probably temper your expectations. It’s not going to be a sprawling animal enclosure. It’s still a Vegas side attraction. While they’ve taken care to respect the animals, you’re still in the middle of Las Vegas. It’s not going to be on par with the San Diego zoos.

If you’re still eager to see flamingos, the same-named hotel has got you covered.

Head into the Flamingo and through the casino to find the directional signs which will lead you to the birds. This area isn’t always open, so check the hours of operation if this is a must-do. Generally, this is a nice little break from wandering the strip. Some hotels have immense lobbies with beautiful artwork. Some have great exhibits (like the Bellagio’s garden). The Flamingo has got the bird enclosure (with some bonus animals!).

Once you head outside, you’ll be able to wander a few paths to see not only flamingos, but a few other birds. They won’t be exotic so much as various duck species, so again, keep those expectations a little lower. In addition to birds, there are also turtles and a number of fish species swimming around the water features.

This is a totally free encounter, which makes it a plus in Vegas where everything starts to cost a pretty penny. It won’t take you longer than about half an hour, even with lingering, but it’s a good way to break up your time, get some fresh air, and see some birds! If you time it right, you can visit during a keeper talk (usually in the morning around 10AM) to learn a little more about the birds. If you’ve got kids with you, this is a great kid-friendly option!
