Great Italian food in Vegas at a fair price at La Strega

The Solo Scale:

If you’re going to Vegas, you’re going to have your choice of restaurants on the Strip. They’ll have great reviews, great variety, and great celebrity-chef name appeal. There is, of course, another option. That’s where La Strega comes in.

You could head off strip to the suburbs, where there are amazing restaurants (and usually don’t charge the exorbitant prices that you get on the strip). If you’re a fan of Italian food, La Strega is a great option. The name, lovingly translated to The Witch, is a slight trek. It’s nothing a taxi or rideshare can’t solve. It’s about fifteen minutes away, so it wasn’t close by any means, but it was a nice little restaurant located in a strip mall and had fantastic decor and vibes. The restaurant self-describes as ‘Modern, Neighborhood Italian’ and given our dishes, it absolutely matched up to their promise.

The initial drink ordering only continued to elevate the experience. Our cocktails arrived in funky glassware, which is a fun addition to a delicious drink.

As with many other restaurants in Vegas, there’s so many delicious options on the menu. Rather than trying just one dish, we opted for an assortment. These included the Salmon Tartare, Peruvian Bay Scallops, Ravioli, and Stonefruit Burrata. The menu does change seasonally, so this review will focus on the items available in the fall of 2024. They may return, but otherwise, you can use this review to understand a general idea of how they prepare their meals.

The salmon tartare was good, but extremely rich with the sauce. The jalapenos on top were definitely a bit of a choice. When eaten together, it was a good bite, but if you didn’t get it all at once, it got a bit confusing.
The smoked ravioli was a bit of a letdown. The smokiness was great for the first few bites, but then it continued to overpower the rest of the pasta, making it a much weaker dish than everything else that was ordered.
The Peruvian Bay Scallops were amazing. They were cooked to perfection and the accompanying sauces and touches blended for an amazing bite with acid, a bit of a kick, and amazing flavour. They know how to cook their seafood here!
The Stonefruit Burrata was my absolute favourite. It was a phenomenally creative take by replacing tomatoes with peaches. It worked so well and all the ingredients worked together and were amazingly fresh.

By the time dessert rolled around, there were many options, but they were all fairly custard-heavy. In place of that, I ordered a cup of straciatella gelato (vanilla with shredded chocolate). It tasted a little more like ice cream and missed some of that creaminess, but it was a nice sweet treat to end the meal.

Overall, the service we received was excellent, the restaurant mood is chill and fun (especially since it’s off strip), and while the prices aren’t cheap, they’re not quite downtown prices for the meal. You will have to factor in the taxi/rideshare costs to get there if you’re planning to imbibe.

La Strega is a great way to enjoy Italian food in Vegas without going to a celebrity chef’s restaurant and I highly recommend it!
