The Solo Scale:
In the shadow of the well-known Prague Castle sits a much lesser-known attraction that still boasts its own impressive connection to the capital, terracotta tiles, and gorgeous gardens — plus, it’s not a well-known destination, which means that you won’t run into many crowds.
This is Wallenstein Palace in Prague, which also happens to be the residence of the senate in the Czech Republic. For those who appreciate history and architecture, it’s a fantastic off-the-beaten-path option when you’re in Prague.
Built in early Baroque style, the palace is an architectural marvel. Wallenstein commissioned architects and craftsmen from Italy and other countries to work on the façade and interiors. The ceilings and walls are adorned with frescoes and stuccos inspired by ancient mythology.

In the summer, you can also take a tour of the gardens, where peacocks are often roaming around between the hedges and trees.
While the gardens aren’t as grand as several others in Europe (certainly being only a fraction of what you’ll experience in Versailles), the appeal of Wallenstein Palace’s more unknown status pays off here in being able to explore without thick crowds.
If you’re ready to visit, take note of the opening hours (visit the site here for more details). Give yourself about two hours to visit and explore the Palace and the gardens in depth.
