See the Phantom of the Opera’s home at the Paris Opera House

The Solo Scale:

Paris is a city of love, light, fashion, food, and art. Combining all that together is the Paris Opera House, boasting amazing culture & architecture. Otherwise known as the Palais Garnier, the Opera House combines some of those amazing things into one place. Like the Altare della Patria in Rome (also known as the Monument to Vittorio Emanuale II), it looks a bit like a wedding cake with its’ construction.

If you’re a pop culture fan, you might know the Palais Garnier as where the Phantom of the Opera takes place. Maybe you’re there to take in culture. In that case, you can view costumes on display alongside maquettes of various set displays. If you really want, you can even buy tickets to watch a show.

If you’re there for the architecture, it truly is a marvel from any angle. Inside is a masterful set of details from the winding staircases to the candlelit banisters. Then, there’s the balconies where you can wander outside for a view of Paris from the Palais Garnier.

TRIP TIP: Grab a baguette and macarons from a café nearby and sit on the steps to eat your lunch. It’s great people watching, being so central, and you’ll be steps away from getting to explore the Opera House after!

During the tour, you won’t be able to wander around the entire theatre, but rather gain access to specific areas.

The tour itself will take a few hours, if you’re eager to see all the details — and why shouldn’t you? It’s a gorgeous and central location. With access to so many metro stops, hotels in this area are also a fantastic option for your stay. Otherwise, it can be a quick stop during your time in Paris, but a beautiful one that will have you in awe.
