What’s one of the best ways to explore a city that you’ve never been to? One option is a bus tour where you can hop on and off and learn about the city. There’s another way, though it does require you to participate and do a little bit of the work yourself. That would be the scavenger hunt option.

If you’re going to Bath, there’s plenty of history to explore. That ranges from millennia ago at the Roman Baths to the more “recent” Regency period in a city that Austen loved to write about. There’s Bath glass, Bath gin, Bath spas, and more. If you want to explore the city and learn more about them, you can try your hand at “Secrets & Sigils”. The Secrets & Sigils Scavenger Hunt in Bath was an excellent test of patience & mental skills.

However, it’s a great opportunity to see Bath in a single go while testing your brain. There will be multiple clues that will take you around the city. Along the way you’ll see things like Pulteney Bridge, The Royal Crescent, and the River Avon. The hunt will end just outside the Roman Baths.

Some tips to keep in mind if youre interested in this:

• Start before dark, especially in the winter, because it gets really cold when the sun goes down. If you want to visit the Roman Baths, try and set it up so that the Baths are still open as this will finish right outside with the last clue
  
• If it is cold or you’re getting tired of walking around Bath, take your time! The hunt allows for breaks. Pop into a pub, put your feet up, and then you can start again when you’re ready — it’s all built into the itinerary
  
• The experience is all digital, so make sure you have the ability to use data or reliable wi-fi or it won’t work. You’ll be submitting your answers, getting clues, and interacting frequently, so make sure that your phone/device is well charged
  
• Ask for hints before you get too far – sometimes, we would read clues that seemed so simple and wound up over a kilometre off the path. There are hints available to you, so if something doesn’t feel right, use those hints sooner than later. Don’t let sunk cost fallacy do you in
  
• You will be doing a lot of walking, but you will also see the whole city. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, though!
  
• It truly is a fantastic team-building exercise, even if you may also nearly come to blows with your team — verbal ones, at least, but it will illuminate just how differently you approach problems; which is, after all, one of the key reasons to do this for work

I spent several days in Bath for a team event, but the two hours we spent on this scavenger hunt made me feel like I’d seen the city in a way that I wouldn’t have done if not for the exploration. We ended with dinner at a local tapas restaurant, capping off a competitive, yet fun exploration of the city.
