The Solo Scale:
If you’re going to San Francisco, Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf is probably on your must-see list — and for good reason.

It’s a well-known destination for a reason. It’s home to some of San Francisco’s more well-known attractions including the Aquarium. Plus, you’ve got shops and restaurants of the Wharf and fantastic views of Alcatraz (when the fog yields). Of course, one of its main attractions are the famous sea lions that lounge at Pier 39.

You won’t be able to miss them when they’re there. Between the smell and the sound, they’re ready to make themselves known. If you’re feeling lost, just keep walking down the pier. Soon, you’ll see plenty of signage that will lead you to the sea lion viewing area.

If you’re eager to go see the barking, here’s a warning. Lately, the sea lions aren’t always guaranteed to be there. If you do see them, you might notice they’re not there in the large numbers they once were. They’ve decided to find other locations to roost, so you might arrive and find the piers devoid of these sun-hungry mammals! Still, you might get lucky and find large numbers of them lounging (and if you’re even luckier, it’ll be a sunny day that will give you plenty of views of the Bay!)
