Soak in the EcoTermales Hot Springs in La Fortuna

In the shadow of Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna boasts several hot springs offerings to relax weary travellers. There are plenty of options. That means you need to do your research on price points and what you’re after!. One of your options and the one we’ll be reviewing today is EcoTermales.

During their stay, visitors will have the pleasure of the sensation of the natural energy which surges from the veins of the Arenal Volcano, and heats the thermal pools which range from 32°C until the 41° C (90°F to 106° F), together with the cool water pools and waterfall, enjoy a relaxing hydro-massage.

Each of the pools has a different temperature and plenty of natural rock formations (and you will want to watch where you’re stepping as there are some underwater rocks that might scrape you up if you’re not careful of where you’re going). The highlight really is the hydro-massage of the waterfall in one of the cooler pools.

It can get busier as the day goes on, so if you’re wanting a little more respite, showing up earlier (prior to dinner) is a better option. There’s also a bar available so you can lounge and drink (but keep hydration in mind, especially if you’re going to be spending your time in some of the hotter pools).

The soothing thermal pools and waterside bar aren’t the only perks. You’ll be right next to the wildlife. Lizards, monkeys, and even sloths are in the trees all around you, and while the hooting of the monkeys isn’t the soothing spa soundtrack that most people look forward to, it’s a unique experience that you won’t get many other places outside of Costa Rica.

EcoTermales does offer a buffet dinner. While it’s perfectly fine food, this isn’t somewhere you’re visiting for the meal. If it’s included in the price you paid, take advantage, but don’t expect five-star fine dining.

If you are planning to head to EcoTermales (or any other hot spring), make sure you stay well-hydrated. That will help you avoid a dehydration headache from all that steam and soaking. The poolside bar is a fun perk, but always remember to get your water in, too. Otherwise, you’ll be paying for it the rest of the night.

For details on how to visit, schedule, and admission prices, check the website. There are plenty of thermal options in the area, so pick what makes the most sense for you!
