The Solo Scale:
For a city on the smaller side, Rotorua isn’t lacking for activities. Between the thermal spring spas, Te Puia, Rainbow Springs, the gondola and more, there’s enough to keep you extremely busy (and that’s without going a little further afield for more adventures). If you’re at all interested in a farm experience, then the Agrodome is a fantastic option. The Farm Show is the big draw, but by no means the only one. The Farm Show experience puts together multiple types of entertainment that highlights farm life, the animals, and also some of the activities that take place on farms, leading to an incredible show.
When you arrive, the show will start as different breeds of sheep are led out to their labelled podiums. They’re a fun watch throughout the show, especially since you’ll be able to see them fall asleep on some of the pedestals when the content gets a little dull for them (can you blame them? They’ve been through this before). From there, one of the sheep is selected for a shearing demonstration. All the while, the emcee entertains you to keep the show light and fun.

Once the shearing demonstration is done, the farm dogs come out. What’s impressive is their uncanny ability to balance. They’ll do that right on top of the very sheep breeds that you’ve been watching the whole time!
There’s fun games for the kids, including feeding the baby goats. At the close of the show, you can even go up and pet some of the animals! Once you’re done with the inside portion of your visit, you’ll head outside. This is when you get to see sheep herding in action by the farm dogs you were just petting.
If you want to keep exploring past the Farm Show, there’s the option to also do the Farmyard Nursery and Farm Tour. This is an opportunity to hand-feed animals and get even more educational content. If you do the full experience, make sure to budget just under 3 hours. For just the Farm Show, an hour to ninety minutes works.
It’s a really fun outing and a quick one. Close to the city, you don’t have to go far at all to enjoy this amazing farm show. If you’re ready for a visit, check out the information on their website to plan your trip!
