The Solo Scale:
In the middle of the financial district in San Francisco, Vault Garden is tucked into the offices that dot the area. Accessible by public transit (both by bus, but also a short walk from the F Streetcar stop), it’s an open-concept location set overlooking the street and accessible from the lobby of an office building. That said, don’t let the office facade put you off. It’s a charming layout and it really does feel like you stepped inside a garden to dine.
I had seen this restaurant pop up on a couple of recommendation lists, so I figured I would give it a try. For my meal, I ordered an appetizer, main, and dessert with a glass of wine to go with it. Scroll down for photos and reviews of the dishes.
TOP TIP: It doesn’t matter what time of year that you go. You may want to bring a jacket or light sweater if you’re planning to sit in the open air. It’s quite chilly as there’s a bit of a wind tunnel in this part of the city and without any sun, it can get chilly. I went in early July and they were still running heat lamps. Even with those, there was a bit of a chill to contend with.

Overall, the dinner was good and the price wasn’t too exorbitant for the food and the atmosphere. It was a little out of the way if you’re staying in a tourist area, but I was still back at my hotel within twenty minutes (including waiting for a bus). If you’re also more of a steak person, there’s also The Vault Steakhouse (instead of The Vault Garden). You can find out more information, including current menus and prices here.
If there’s one thing I recommend from this trip, it’s the beignets (which are still on the menu at last look!). However, there are plenty of other options that I would trust with this kitchen!
