It’s elementary to visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum in London

The Solo Scale:

What will you find if you go to 221b Baker Street in London? Admittedly, you won’t find the Sherlock Holmes museum, because that’s located just a few buildings down. However, a few doors down is a recreation of the Sherlock Holmes house, styled in a 19th century town home.

Before you enter, you’ll have to walk past the entrance. There’s often a performer dressed in gear of the time, for tourists to take photos with! This is where you get your tickets at a desk in the gift shop. There’s only one place to buy tickets. If it’s busy, it might take a while. Once you have them, you can rejoin the line.

Typically, there is a line, as entrance is metered because of the tight fit. I was there during a weekend in early March and only waited 10 minutes. However, if it’s busier, this might be another wait, as you can’t get in until someone else leaves. It puts you at the mercy of others, so if you’re determined to visit, make sure you have plenty of time.

This multiple-story experience recreates the Holmes apartment from the books, with easter eggs pulled from Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories — including some very creepy wax models up on one of the higher floors. It’s not like visiting a movie set, but there’s absolutely something here for the Holmes fans. What you see leans very heavily towards the books, so if you’re expecting something from the Robert Downey Jr movies or the BBC show, you’ll likely only feel elements of it from what they drew on from the books.

The whole experience shouldn’t take more than an hour. Most of your time will be waiting to see the exhibits or to navigate the narrow stairs. This is why they limit the number of people who can come inside at any time and why you’ll appreciate it! On your way out, you can duck into the gift shop again. There’s an assortment of the usual trinkets you’d expect.

If you’re a Holmes fan and this sounds right up your alley, then check out the website for more details!
