The Solo Scale:
It’s not hard to find reasons to want to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter. The beignets are a top-tier reason and so is the boat that takes you to Disney Springs. It’s one of the most luxurious and relaxing activities you can do and it’s free.
On top of that, the resort is on the smaller side, has a dedicated bus at a single stop, and has great ambiance. Plus, it’s a moderate resort, so you’re not going to be paying top dollar for all these comforts and amenities. Those are all reasons enough to book a stay. It’s still got one more secret in its back pocket that should entice you in.
That little secret is Scat Cat’s Club. This is where you can see live music on the weekends while sipping on cocktails and eating delicious food. Scat Cat’s Club elevates French Quarter above other Disney resorts, but the secret has gotten out. If you’re interested, you’ll need to do a little prep.
In the past, the live music happened on Friday – Sunday. As of January 2025, they’ve added a Thursday evening performance. Still take the time to double check as that may not be permanent. The first set begins at 7:30PM. If you want to be sure you get a seat, get there before 7PM. After that, it’s hit and miss and you may be waiting a while for a party that’s leaving before you can get a table.
Once you’re settled, a server will come to take your drink order. There’s a few servers for the room, but it can get fairly chaotic, so be patient with your service. There may be longer lulls than a normal service and sometimes it’s a bit harder to order when the music is playing at its loudest.
Scat Cat’s Club offers a light food menu as well as a robust cocktail menu.
The Menu
I ordered two drinks during the Saturday night session I attended — the first drink was a play on a whiskey sour and the second was a white sangria. The sangria tasted a little watered down, but the whiskey sour was strong and delicious. Of the two, I highly recommend it. I returned to Scat Cat a few days later in my trip for a blood orange margarita and that also delivered on the flavour, the alcohol levels, and the refreshment that I needed after a long day in the parks.
For my food, I enjoyed the shrimp po’boy with the house made chips. There’s definitely a bit of spice on the chips which made me long for a quick water refill, but they were delicious and because of the spice, the meal really stretched out and let me appreciate the music sets for a little longer. The shrimp po’boy was incredible. The fried shrimp wasn’t soggy at all and the beignet as a bun countered the richness of the shrimp and the flavour of the remoulade.
The Entertainment
The live jazz band is truly the draw. It’s nice to enjoy good food and unique drinks, but Disney’s ability to find strong talent is why you should visit Scat Cat’s Club. Don’t worry if you think it’s going to be obscure jazz all night. The band performs in 30 minute sets throughout the evening with breaks in between so you can still chat.
When they are performing, they’re doing jazzy takes on modern music and Top 40 hits. When I was there, we heard Stevie Wonder, Harry Styles, and many more extremely recognizable songs. There’s something for everyone and even if you don’t recognize all the songs, you can definitely recognize the talent of the band.
Volume Level
Like I alluded to earlier, it can get noisy. You’ll be having some mild-shouting conversations with your server and if you’re sitting next to the stage, you might want to bring some earplugs. It’s not a restaurant to eat if you’re looking for in-depth conversations with your party. The whole reason for going is enjoying the incredible talent of the band, some amazing themed drinks, and a delicious menu that highlights beignets in a more savoury venue.
