Animal Kingdom’s Nomad Lounge Review – Patio & Bar

The Solo Scale:

Note: This Nomad Lounge article was last updated about an experience in March 2026.

When I was in Animal Kingdom in September, I experienced some of the slowest park days I’ve ever seen. Looking at the visitor statistics, Animal Kingdom doesn’t have nearly the same traffic as the other parks: It’s only got 50% of Magic Kingdom’s annual attendance. And yet, even with all that, the secret is out on Nomad Lounge because the walk-up waitlist was closed at times during the day. Even when I got on the waitlist, it was a long wait until I could get in. On that solo trip, it took 55 minutes for a table to open up.

What that means is you need to watch that waitlist carefully and don’t expect it to be a guarantee. Unlike other Disney restaurants, you can’t book this one at the 60-day mark, so you’re at the mercy of the crowds and the waitlist on the day of!

There’s a caveat if you’re visiting when it’s hot (and it’s rare that it’s not in Florida). If you get seated outside and don’t close the curtains, the heat will come on quickly. This is especially true if you’re in a section where the fans aren’t directly on you. The flotillas have stopped at Animal Kingdom, so there’s nothing to miss by closing the curtains. However, it could still be very hot. If there’s space available, you can always ask your server to move, but I didn’t have the option.

During my very first visit, I opted for a drink and a dessert.

The Hightower Rocks was a fantastic watermelon and tequila based drink. It was just the right kind of refreshing for the heat. I also got the churros, which beat all the Bad Disney Churro allegations given how delicious they were. The sauces (a creme anglaise and strawberry guava) really made them extra delicious, with my favourite being the strawberry sauce.

It was a perfectly relaxing little late afternoon snack and put me close to my next stop (my Lightning Lane for Flight of Passage), but use my experience as a warning. Make sure that you’re not in that direct sun, however you can, and then, enjoy the experience!

RETURNING IN FEBRUARY 2025

Recently, I returned to Animal Kingdom during a trip and I decided that I wanted to return to Nomad Lounge. This time, it was January, which meant that the patio would have been a good choice, but unfortunately, it was also incredibly busy as it was almost dinner. As a result, I opted to eat at the inside bar instead, which gave me a view of operations.

On this trip, I learned that you can order for takeaway — including the churros. While I was there, multiple people grabbed their orders and took them to eat somewhere else.

I got a “Jenn’s Tattoo” drink, mostly because the one I actually wanted was out of inventory (no pear liqueur). However, the drink was delicious and very similar to the picture in the menu! It was refreshing and delicious and if it had been warm outside, I could have drank three of them in no time at all.

For my main, I ordered the tuna poke bowl and while I had been warned, the kimchi was definitely spicy. It was a substantial portion that offers great value for money. Using the provided chopsticks, you can spend a while enjoying the meal and resting your feet. It’s a delicious main if you want something savory and not just sweet!

The bartending staff were great, even near the end of their shifts. Everything was quick and service was responsive, which led to a great experience inside. It had a slightly different ambiance than the patio, but still charming and themed, nonetheless.

RETURNING IN MARCH 2026

By this point, I’ve grown extremely fond of Nomad Lounge. The drink options are fantastic, it’s a nice change of pace, and the food and service is great. During my last trip, I had another reason to visit.

I was travelling with a friend who’s celiac and she discovered that not only are the churros delicious, but they’re also gluten-free. That made the decision extremely easy to head there and spend some time at Nomad Lounge, ordering drinks and getting a churros to share.

This time, I finally managed to get the Snow Leopard Salvation from the menu as the pear liqueur was back in stock. Admittedly, I didn’t taste much pear and I mostly got the ginger beer vibes that came with it, which wasn’t a bad thing. It was refreshing, amazing, and perfect on an unexpectedly hot March day.

Then it was time for the main event — the churros. They tasted just as good as they had during my first visit. In my opinion, I think they even had better sugar coverage (or maybe the heat hadn’t melted them off). The gluten-free aspect is a huge win, especially if there are allergies in your party. Plus, sharing them lets you spend more time snacking at other spots in Animal Kingdom.
