Why you should dine at Thunder Falls Terrace before it goes extinct

The Solo Scale:

This article was last updated as of April 2026 and reflects a visit in both January 2025 and March 2026.

Sometimes at theme parks, it’s not just the food that draws you to a restaurant, but the entertainment. In this case, I’m not talking about character dining or a show. Instead, we’re talking about the sheer thrills you can get if you decide to dine outdoors on the patio of Thunder Falls Terrace. You’re guaranteed a new group of thrill seekers barreling down the drop of Jurassic Park River Adventure every few minutes.

And trust me, it doesn’t get old.

How Do You Order?

While you could go inside and put your order in, one of the best things about Thunder Falls Terrace is the ability to go straight to a table to set up, scan the QR code for the menu, and order straight through your device. Then, when your food is ready, someone will bring it out to you without you having to do anything. Because you pre-pay, you don’t have to worry about anything other than getting ready. Inside, you can get cutlery, napkins, and other items, but you won’t have to balance trays of food and drinks.

If you do intend to order inside, make sure to be patient. There’s two lines that you can join, but often people are trying to refill mugs or make new mug purchases and that can slow the line down. I strong recommend that you order from the table.

I highly recommend (if weather permits) that you sit outside for the aforementioned entertainment that you get. Unfortunately, Jurassic Park River Adventure at Islands of Adventure is going under a lengthy refurbishment. That means that you won’t get the entertainment for a while. Right now, there’s a lot of tables that are cut off with walls, so you can’t even get close to the tracks of the ride. However, when it does come back, it’s a must do to enjoy the splashing and the unsuspecting tourists getting caught in the splash zone.

TRIP TIP: Don’t be like me and get so thirsty that you end up paying top dollar for the water that you have to buy. Either bring a water bottle or visit a water fountain before so you don’t end up paying a lot of money just for a bottle of water. Save that money to spend on something else. Over 21+? Get one of Islands of Adventures in-house brews, the Isla Nublar IPA. If you’re under 21, there are still some amazing milkshakes you can buy instead of a bottle of water.

If you do go back to dine here when the ride is up again, be careful. Take a look at the ground to see the puddles. Then, stay far away from that range. If you step up to that area, you’re going to get wet. I witnessed a couple of kids willingly getting sprayed, which seems a bit fun if it’s on purpose. If it’s a hot day, this is a great option.

The Food

In January 2025, the menu was slightly different at Thunder Falls Terrace and I was able to get the Isla Nublar IPA (which is still there and still delicious), and the nachos. I live in hope that these nachos will make it back to the menu, but I’m not hopeful. There are a lot of unique ingredients here that likely made it difficult to stock for. However, if they do come back, I can’t recommend them enough. They’re hearty and delicious and go well with the beer.

The menu at Thunder Falls is expansive with other options if nachos aren’t your style. There’s lots of bowl options and even allergen-friendly ones that you can take advantage of. It’s theme park prices here, but the quantity and flavour make up for it.

During my last visit, I opted for the ribs. These come with three sides of rice, corn, and black beans. There’s not a ton of meat on the ribs, but they’re tender to the point that they fall off the bone. Plus, the sides are hearty and healthy and filling, but without making you sick. That’s a huge plus at a park with a lot of thrill rides.

Plus, it leaves room for dessert. If it’s as hot as it was for my last trip, that means that a Pomegranate Swirl is a perfect treat. This is pomegranate dole whip, vanilla soft serve, and some actual pomegranate seeds to give it some crunch. It was tart and not overly sweet, but just cool enough to refresh in the middle of a hot day.
