The Solo Scale:
While not known for being the top theme park for foodies at Disney World, you can still find multiple good options in Hollywood Studios from the great beer at Baseline Taphouse (and an amazing pretzel) to Ronto Roasters, and even great sit-down at Primetime and Brown Derby. Sometimes, though, you just need something really quick. That’s when a location like Backlot Express comes into play.
The theme of Backlot Express fits the original concept of Hollywood Studios more than anything that it boasts today. In the past, this was on the way to the stunt show at the back of the park, passing the Indiana Jones show, and had a fairly consistent theme. Now, it does seem slightly out of place and maybe a little worn, but it’s still serviceable.
What’s available to eat?
Backlot Express has pretty typical fare with burgers, sandwiches, fries, and more. There’s nothing super groundbreaking here. At the same time, it’s safe food. It’s especially good if you have little ones in your party who are extremely new-food-averse. Personally, I find the burgers a little on the drier side, but their fries are super dependable and the thinner and crispy type.
Plus, I really like that they have self-dispensing soda machines, so once you have your cup, you can go back for refills as much as you want. On a hot Florida day, that perk is truly magnificent.
Trip Tip: It breaks my heart to say this, but it’s time to give the Wookiee Cookie a pass. The cookies that are on the outside are so thick now that it throws off the balance of the cookie. If you love oatmeal cream pies, this still might work for you, but I’ve tried three times in three years and every time, there’s too much oatmeal cookie to the cream ratio and it’s wasted money as those picked-off pieces end up in the trash.

In general, it’s really easy to get a seat here as well. There’s a lot of both indoor and outdoor seating available and despite going multiple times, I’ve never seen it packed. If you’re tired of standing and walking or just tired of the crowds, it’s pretty easy to find a quiet corner here. On top of that, Backlot Express is open later than several other Hollywood Studio options, so if you need something before Fantasmic, it’s there for you.
On top of that (lots of perks for this), it’s available for mobile order. So if you’re feeling a craving and need an easy bite, you can get it ahead of time. Because it’s not super popular, the order windows are almost always immediate.
